Herbert: Government failing to meet basic environmental standards
29th April 2009
Commenting on Wednesday’s National Audit Office report on the environmental impacts of Government procurement, Shadow Environment Secretary Nick Herbert said:
“When the Government is spending nearly five pounds out of every ten in our economy, it is vital that they take a lead in achieving high environmental standards. Ensuring we have sustainable procurement by the public sector is the obvious way to make big strides towards minimising the environmental cost of government and helping to green our economy. There are easy ways Ministers could be saving money and going green but time and again too many departments are wasting resources and have not even put simple measures in place.”
