Benyon: We need a fundamental shake up of the Common Fisheries Policy
22nd April 2009
Responding to today’s announcement by the European Commission to launch a consultation on the future of the Common Fisheries Policy, Shadow Fisheries Minister, Richard Benyon said:
“We need a Government which will stand up for our fishing communities in Brussels. The CFP has failed our fishermen and the communities they support as well as contributing to the decline of our marine life.
“We need a fundamental shake up which will encourage sustainable practices, give local communities a greater say over the future of their fishing industry and bring to an end the scandal whereby fish are being regularly dumped back into the sea dead.”
